Abstract:
Lavender | Clary Sage | Pink Clay | Softening
It was the homies’ birthday, we were out in the back, grillin’, deep frying, drinking. The light out on the patio was really trash and the sun was setting, so my husband had me use the light on his phone to help him see the deep fryer. Now, I was already one Floco deep, unbeknownst to everyone; & when I am drinking, I become a menace. I was momentarily distracted and at that moment, I accidentally dropped my husband’s phone INTO THE DEEP FRYER. Fortunately, he has great reflexes, and lifted the basket out just before the phone fell into the hot oil! Unfortunately, he had a huge crack across his screen, the phone landed face down, and the residual oil seeped in and rendered his screen unusable (lol still sorry for this). So he said to me, “you better make a soap called Forgiveness! So we can pay for a new phone”! & that’s how Forgiveness came to be!
Hypothesis:
After conducting a little bit of preliminary research, something that would be both comforting and uplifting was what I was going to be striving for. Lavender, clary sage, and lemon should be focal scents to accomplish this goal. To stick with the theme of forgiveness, an additive that is “forgiving” to the skin should be selected, such as clay.
Experimental Design:
The first, obvious choice was lavender, as it can be very soothing to the skin and senses, easing sunburns and restless minds. Not only that, but Mark Twain said “forgiveness is the smell that lavender gives out when you tread on it”, which I feel is especially fitting for this situation. An oil I often enjoy pairing with lavender is clary sage, as it’s a little more herbaceous and helps elevate mood. It is also great at anchoring light scents, like lavender, and the citrus oils I was planning to put in, so it too was an obvious choice.
Next, I had to think of something to color it with, but also completely stick with the theme of Forgiveness, as stated in the hypothesis. I kept getting pink vibes from the scent blend, so I chose rose clay as the additive for this bar! Rose clay is one of the more gentle clays, as its texture is very fine, making it the perfect additive for the Forgiveness bar.
Data & Conclusion:
The rose clay gives the lather extra slip and makes it oh-so soft on the skin. The lavender, clary sage, and lemon essential oils combined achieve the goal of promoting comfort while simultaneously elevating mood. After rigorous personal testing, with 99.9% confidence, it is totally safe to say, this bar is fit to be called Forgiveness.
