Abstract:
Bergamot | Vanilla | Tonka Bean | Soft & Sweet
Hypothesis:
There is an absence of sweet scents in the Herbal Hannah catalogue, however, I'm very sensitive to scents that are overly sweet. So I thought to myself, "what can I do to make a sweet scent that won't make me want to hurl"? & the answer to that, was Earl Grey tea!! Bright, inviting, and comforting, Earl Grey holds a special place in my heart, not to mention, the flower of the Herbal Hannah logo is actually a tea flower! So it was only natural to create at least one tea based scent!
Experimental Design:
I gathered my knowledge and own personal preferences when it came to Earl Grey. This tea is typically made by scenting tea leaves with bergamot oil; a citrus fruit that is believed to be a cross between lemon and bitter orange. Often you will see Earl Grey blended with lavender at cafes, however, I wanted to capture the unadulterated essence of one of my favorite childhood teas, so you will not find lavender in this scent!
I do enjoy a good tea latte though, so ultimately I decided to add vanilla to this blend! I also added tonka bean, to compliment the vanilla and add more sweetness!
Although there is no lavender in this Earl Grey, it always makes me think of a purple/grey color. Because of this, I decided to add Brazilian purple clay! It's color varies, depending on which mine it is sourced from, so you may see some variation in color!
Data & Conclusion:
The scent perfectly captures the essence of Earl Grey tea! It is creamy, citrusy, and inviting. The purple clay makes an incredibly soft lather and adds visual appeal to this bar. A success in my book!
