Abstract:
Tobacco | Vetiver | Coffee | Activated Charcoal & Clay
Hypothesis behind the bar:
I originally wanted to make a bar called Violence to go with one of my husband's art enamel pins. It had more of an aggressive style, we came up with a good drippy looking logo for a ski-mask, and planned to drop the bar in October for Halloween in 2021. So the question then was: "What does Violence smell like"?
Experiential Design:
After gathering some ideas about Violence, it seemed only fitting that tobacco be included in this scent. Afterall, what says Violence more than cigarettes, black coffee, and a musty smell in the air *queue Rob Zombie playing in the background*. In order to tamper down the sweetness of the tobacco, I needed to add something earthy and something a little more astringent. Enter: CO2 extracted coffee oil. The delicious and rich aroma of coffee, without any of the caffeine. A must. After the coffee was added, I was still craving more earthy-goodness. Vetiver and copaiba are my two go-to scents for adding a very grounding feeling to my blends.
Once the scent was complete, it was time to decide on additives! I wanted the appearance of the bar to match the name and powerful scent. We hadn't done a dual colored bar since Washy, so I thought to go along with the vibe of Violence, black and maroon would be excellent colors. Activated charcoal always creates a nice, dark color and a mixture of pink and purple clays created a cool, muted red that contrasted well!
Data & Conclusion:
Violence definitely packs a punch with it's empowering and warming scent. Activated charcoal helps attract and lock away extra dirt, while the clays add a softness to the lather and help hydrate skin!
